  19. Subject: OS/2 v2.0 and v2.1 Operating System--Running WinFax
  20.  
  21. Situation:
  22. ==========
  23. You have a Class 1 or Class 2 Fax/Modem and are running WinFax PRO
  24. under OS/2 v2.0 or v2.1. (When running under OS/2, WinFax PRO has
  25. access to only 1000 interrupts per second, which is not enough for
  26. WinFax to fax at 9600 baud.)
  27.  
  28. Solution:
  29. =========
  30. There are a number of settings that need to be altered for WinFax PRO 
  31. to function correctly under a WIN-OS/2 v2.0 or v2.1 session:
  32.  
  33. -   WinFax should be run in a full-screen WIN-OS/2 session, and any
  34.     applications that you wish to fax from must be running in the
  35.     same session.
  36.  
  37. -   The session that WinFax is running under should be left in the 
  38.     foreground during fax reception or transmission.
  39.  
  40. -   If you have migrated WinFax from a DOS-based Windows installation, 
  41.     you should reinstall WinFax from a WIN-OS/2 session. This is required
  42.     because the OS/2 migration utility will not transfer all of the 
  43.     configuration information that WinFax needs.
  44.  
  45. -   Change the following WIN-OS/2 settings:
  46.  
  47.          IDLE_SENSITIVITY=100
  48.          IDLE_SECONDS=60
  49.          COM_HOLD=ON
  50.          HW_TIMER=ON
  51.          INT_DURING_IO=ON
  52.  
  53.     Note: Setting IDLE_SENSITIVITY to 100 and IDLE_SECONDS to 60 may 
  54.           reduce system performance, and may not be necessary in all 
  55.           cases. For more information, see your OS/2 manual. 
  56.  
  57. If you are running an Enhanced Mode Windows session under OS/2 v2.1, 
  58. make the following changes to the [386Enh] section of the SYSTEM.INI
  59. file:
  60.  
  61.     COMxBUFFER=2048
  62.     COMBOOSTTIM1024E=20
  63.     COMxFIFO=0
  64.  
  65.     Note: The "x" refers to the COM port that the fax/modem is connected
  66.           to.
  67. If you are using WinFax PRO 3.0 (April 93 or later) with a Class 1 Fax/
  68. Modem and do not have a 16550 UART chip, insert the following lines in the
  69. [General] section of the WINFAX.INI file:
  70.  
  71.     MaxTxSpeed=7200
  72.     MaxRxSpeed=4800
  73.  
  74.     Note: This will limit WinFax to sending at 7200 and receiving at 4800.
  75.           Valid entries for MaxTxSpeed are 14400, 12000, 9600, 7200 or 
  76.           4800.
  77.           Valid entries for MaxRxSpeed are 14400, 9600, or 4800.

  79. To operate at higher speeds, you must use a 16550 UART chip. OS/2 v2.1's
  80. serial port driver uses the buffering capability of this UART to increase
  81. the reliability of serial port communications running at 9600 baud or faster.
  82.
